How is this tablet for my intended use?

I'm opening a store and would like to use Square POS as my cash register system using their Square Register app. I'm on a budget and wasn't trying to spend a lot so I was considering the Tab A 8" or possibly the 9.7".

Is there anything that I should be aware that might limit or inhibit my use of either the 8" or 9.7" as a POS system? I imagine the processor should be more than sufficient since it won't be data or processing intensive. Any insight is appreciated.

Also, I see these are on Android 5.0. Will I be able to update these to Android 6.0?

Thanks!

The square works fine on my wife's Tab A but we generally just use our phone in case the wifi goes down then you have cell coverage as a backup. Nothing stops you from having the square app on both a tablet and a phone.

In my experience Samsung is slow to update to the latest Android. If that's important to you I would get a Nexus 7 or 9.

I have the Tab A 9.7 with the S Pen. The processor is sufficient, image & text quality are good & battery life is excellent. You get a lot of positive reviews on Amazon.

No reason the Tab A shouldn't be just fine for what you're doing. It's a simple tablet and not exceptionally powerful, so you'll definitely want to limit the amount of apps you're running at the same time in order to get better performance. I definitely recommend not installing facebook on this tablet because it is a MAJOR battery suck. And assuming you have a smartphone, you can always turn it into a mobile hotspot if your internet goes out.

Just a note about the Tab A 9.7 with S-pen - I picked mine up from Amazon warehouse deals for $250ish. Was open box but brand new otherwise. Worth checking out if anyone is in the market.
