How Kies is suppose to work?

This morning I clicked on the Kies icon and it did an update to 1.11011.4, I plugged in my phone and the Kies screen changed into it's update download screen, of course, none were available, and then the Windows box opened and asked if I wanted to sync my media, load images from phone for editing in my paint program or just view the files on the phone.

I'm guessing this is how it has suppose to work. . . am I right?
