How Long Before Nexus is $150?

How pathetic am I? I've been dreaming of getting my grubby hands on a Galaxy Nexus for months, or was it just weeks? Time just seems to drag on forever in this waiting game. Anyway, I've been anxiously waiting for this device, and now that it's presumably almost here, I'm thinking I really don't have the moulah to plunk down for it. My pie-in-the-sky dream of a $199 price point seems a waste of time. So, the next question is...when do people think it will drop in price to $149?

Unfortunately, since I will be using my last annual upgrade, I can only get it from Verizon and not a third party like Costco, which seems to have sales quicker. (#&*$%!!!!! Will I have to wait more than 6 months for Verizon to drop the price to $149? Any thoughts? Will the Thunderbolt time horizon be indicative? I don't even remember when that one came out.

Too long. I would pony up the cash and get it when you can. It will last you awhile before you feel the need for newer phone.

But if I had to answer it would be 6 months. They could still sell it for $199 for Christmas but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Agreed

Save your money for a couple months and get it for the $300. On one website (been on so many looking at this crap LOL) don't remember which one, they had a screen shot with pricing and it had the $299.99 untill mid to late May. So yeah you are looking at around 6 months.

Too bad the GN didn't come out before black friday. We could have maybe gotten it for a penny on contract. The 2 top tier vz phones, razr and rezound sold for a penny on black friday on Amazon.

heres what your talking about..what you said is exactly what i thought when i saw the May 10th date for the pricing...obviously it could and probably will drop before the 6month date but as planned they dont seem likely to pull an OG iphone trick

Wow, thanks man for an inspiration to wait more enough. I've save maybe enough penny for this if this chart of yours will really do the thing. Thanks.

Life is too short, get what you want. What's $150.... We could all die tomorrow. That's just me. :D

As others have said, you're probably looking at quite a while before the price drops to $150. If it did turn out to be a 6 month wait, that would break down to a savings of $25 per month. Isn't the Galaxy Nexus worth less than $1 per day?

Why do people get hung up on the cost of a new phone, when the real cost is the monthly service?

There are several ways to save some extra cash:

Pack your lunch every day for a month: @ 20 working days X $5.00 = $100.00
Skip Starbucks twice a week for a month: $5.00 X 8 = $40.00
Rent a movie at Red Box for $1.29 and stay home versus going to a movie: 2 Tickets: $24.00. Popcorn and Soda for 2: $20.00.

In one month time you could probably save close to $180.00.

If you want it that bad, there is a way.

Thanks for the info on the 6-month price leaks. If it really is going to be 6 months, I may just bite the bullet. It hurts at this time of year when I'm buying gifts for everyone else as well. D@mn holidays! ;) At least I'll get 4GB of data instead of 2GB I suppose, even though I'm on wifi like 95% of the time.

Yikes. I don't know about you guys, but I could not wait another 6 months! Just considering purchasing online and waiting a few days longer than going into the store seems torturous to me.

Holy crap! Where do you live that movie tickets are $12 each??

Keep in mind that the chart to which you guys keep referring is MAP (Minimum Advertised Price), and NOT what the phones could actually sell for. Example: log on to Costco's website (or Amazon, etc) and look at the RAZR. Chances are, you see a "click here for price". When you do, you are shown a selling price of less than the $299 indicated on the sheet. When will the GNex get down to $150? I don't know, but if I were a betting man, I'd say you'll see it hit $199 before the end of the year at a place like Amazon. Out of curiosity, why do you think you have to use your upgrade at Verizon? You might not be able to use your last "New Every Two", but if you can save $100 by going somewhere else, who cares? Further, you could always try to get the Verizon store to price match. Not sure how this works, or if it does, but couldn't hurt to try. YMMV,

I will be using my last annual upgrade and not a standard out-of-two-year-contract upgrade. That annual upgrade option was discontinued earlier this year but I was grandfathered in. As I understand it (I could be wrong), but there are a few restrictions regarding this annual upgrade.

1. You have to upgrade at a Verizon corporate store (or Verizon online). Other stores like Costco won't see that you're eligible since you are still under contract.
2. You get the 2-year contract upgrade price, but you have to pay $20 more at a brick and mortar store. You can save that $20 if you get it online at Verizon.

I hope I'm wrong, but that's what I'm going off of right now.

I live in Nebraska. Just checked -- Prime Time tickets are $10.00 + Tax = ~ $11.00. I was off by ~$1.00. I'm cheap and usually go during off peak times and get tickets @ ~ $5.00 each.

All I know, is when my wife and I go during prime time I drop close to $50.00 for the movie and snacks. Thats way too much!!!!

Yeah, I don't blame you! I would probably never go to the theatre if I was paying that much.

Back on track, I am going back and forth on whether or not I should wait for the nexus to go down in price. I think it will only be a few weeks before we start seeing $50-$100 off (especially around Christmas). But I am really impatient and I want this device on launch day...
