How long does it take to find a contact?

I've got about 2500 contacts in my gmail account. When I go to contacts, bring up the search bar and type in a name (using swype), it takes about 3 to 4 seconds to find the contact. Even if its a very unique name, it still takes that same 3 to 4 seconds. I was just curious if that's about the same for others?

I just did a search and it takes about 2 seconds for me, but I don't have over 1000 contacts either.

You should just favorite the people you have to call a lot. Makes it a lot faster.

It's not so much for people I normally call. It's more about walking down the isle in a store, seeing a face that I know, but I don't recall the person's first name, or their kid/spouse is with them and I can't remember that ones name. A really fast search would be helpful. I do consider 3 to 4 seconds pretty quick, it just got me wondering if others have a faster time or if mine is pretty normal.

for 2500 contacts I would say that is quick....
have you merged your contacts btw? to see if there are dupes, etc.

Yeah, I have merged to get rid of dupes, and I agree that it's fast, but I wouldn't mind faster.

I remember reading older post about people with close to 10,000. I wonder how their search time would differ?

I hate checking my contacts and I have about 350. I can only imagine 2500 would be horrible to do.

that's it...we need an international database of everyone's face so we can use the barcode app to see who they are....oh wait the CIA does that now :)

Never mind. I was beta testing an app called Aro Mobile that had ties into my email, contacts, text and calendar. The beta just ended and after I deleted the app, my contact searches are now about 1.5 to 2 seconds. Very acceptable...especially having 2500 contacts.

Testing, I'm sure they are way done with testing by now. They just need to release it to the public :)

I'm amazed that the X can sort 2,500 contacts in 3-4 seconds!!! Don't you think you are getting quality service, given the vast numbers involved??? Want it faster? Winnow down your list to those you really want to keep.

In my last entry on this, I had removed a beta app I was testing called Aro Mobile and now my searches are down to somewhere between .5 and 1 second. Very acceptable. I agree that 3 to 4 seconds was also acceptable, but I remebered it being faster, and at the same time forgot that I was testing this app...I'm an 1diot. Unfortunately, I can't widdle down the contact list as they are all business contacts that I need.

If you want some fun doing searches, try using the app Gesture Search. You draw the letters on your screen and it searches with each additional letter. Very cool! And fast. You can have it search just contacts, and/or music, photos, apps, etc. Every time I have to use the regular contact list search, it's really annoying compared to the quickness of Gesture Search.

I've had it so long, I can't remember if it was a free or a paid app. Wouldn't do without it now.
