How long does Moto Display appear (LCD) on the Moto X Play?

I've got one of the new 2015 Moto X's. I have noticed that this feature is not as convenient for me as everyone says it is, as it has a very aggressive timeout before the display switches off again. This means that I rarely have time to react to the notification before it's gone. So I'm wondering whether Motorola has cut down this timeout period relative to the Moto X 2014 due to the LCD displays on the new Moto X phones and not the AMOLED of years past.

The initial notification seems to be approx 2 seconds, while breathing notifications seem to start fading at 4 seconds and disappear at 5 seconds. Note, waving your hand over the device (IR sensors on the bottom) or picking it up will typically cause breathing notifications to occur prior to the normal cycle.

I think the second gen Moto E and third gen Moto G have the same behavior because they use LCDs too.

Just wave at the phone and the notification comes back.

Not on Moto X Play. It lacks the IR sensors needed for that.

I wish Moto would allow some customisation of the length until screen timeout. It's currently too short.

Oh, wrong forum, then.

So does the blinking display timeout sooner than it did on the x2 with a amoled display?

Just on for about a second on the play. I don't think it breathes on its own but will come back on every time the phone is moved

The 2013 X would also turn the screen on if you waved at it, but you had to be closer to the phone than the 2014 since it relied on the ambient light sensor vs the IR

Think that's been reserved for the style this time round. Active display will show when removing from pocket or moving the phone. I find you just need to give it a little nudge and it'll show up. Not much different to waving at it

Has anyone tried the ambient display option? I probably prefer the way it shows the information but is it right that it only wakes the screen when the notification arrives but not again when you pick up the phone etc.? Seems not so useful as it only works if u happen to see the notification come in

I should probably give this feature a second chance. Once I get used to it, I may find it more useful. It's just that my protective sleeve/pouch makes reacting in time very difficult.

The pouch will block the proximity sensor so won't the screen light up when u remove it if you have any notifications? Would be very useful that way

I'm using a pouch and you have enough time to take the phone out and interact with the notification bubbles or unlock the phone. I'm really liking this feature, not using the power button at all.
