How long does the oleophobic coating on the screen last?

I am referring to the anti-smudge coating on the touch screen which is fingerprint resistant and makes it easier to slide your fingers along the glass. After about 6 months with the phone, I am starting to see areas where the smudges quickly return and stay which can only be removed with a microfiber cloth. For example, one of the areas I touch the most is the back button. Even after cleaning this area, just a few taps of this area will show a circular smudge which doesn't go away, so this has to be due to wearing away of the coating. I was just curious about others' experiences here.

No idea. After six months with a new phone, I've gotten a screen protector long ago.
