My N6 build number is LRX21O lollipop 5.0.My question is, will I receive OTA for the system updates chronologically from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 then 6.0 OR directly Marshmallow 6.0 ?

Hi, from past experience with my Nexus 7, it will go from 5.0 to 5.1.1 then 6.0 - don't you already have 5.1.1 on the device though?

No when I bought it was on 5.0 itself.
Now I'm not getting any system updates.Do u happen to know, when exactly I might receive ?

Turn off your phone while on WiFi. Take Sim card out and reboot. You should then get updates if you do not. Contact Motorola

Yeah maybe, I used windows phone before Nexus. It was actually pretty quick in receiving updates. Disappointed by Google.

You should receive it shortly mate - OTA's are rolled out in stages, I wouldn't expect you to wait any longer than 2 weeks for it.

Since Google is involved, you may be waiting until spring 2016 for Marshmallow. Makes you feel great about your Nexus 6 purchase, correct? Google sucks, BIG TIME!

Thanks for making the world 🌍 a better place.

I had this same issue. I can pretty much promise you unless you do what I suggest, you'll never get an OTA because you're running prerelease firmware. I know this because I was in your very same position. My New Nexus 6 came in with that very same build. It has something to do with the prerelease firmware and checking against your carrier for firmware. Yes the OTAs come from google but, there is also a check to see if the OTA is appproved by the carrier. This was new for the Nexus 6. The good news is there is that there is a OTA to get you out of the prerelease firmware. Yay! Bad news is...You'll have to remove your sim and factory reset the phone. Removing the sim and powering the phone on and off will not work, like some suggest. The phone will remember the last sim/carrier you used... Here is what I did.

Removed my sim. Factory reset the phone. During the setup it will ask you to insert a sim. Just skip ahead and setup the phone on your wifi without a sim...... I wouldn't even bother setting up your google account on the phone because I would suggest another factory reset at the end of this process. Once you get the phone setup and on wifi check for updates. You should now be getting ota's. Rinse and repeat with the updates. You'll probably be updated all the way to Marshmallow. Once you're offered no more ota's, insert your sim and factory reset the phone again. You're done.

Agree somewhat with rickms80. You might try a factory reset to try and kick the phone into gear for OTA updates.

However, LRX210 is not a prerelease early OS build. It's an OTA update build for early Nexus 6, pre-installed on later ones. When you started setting up the phone it should have automatically started updating Android in stages. Probably would have stopped at Android 5.1.1 but it's possible it would go all the way to 6.0 Marshmallow.

I don't have a reason why it would fail to start updating the OS. It should have updated with or without a SIM. Having an activated SIM in the phone would cause it to load a CD carrier-specific build of Android if needed and available, like the T-Mobile build.

Yeah...I jumped the gun on the build. I thought it was prerelease but was mistaken. I just remembered that build number because I think that was the first OTA updated my phone to. After searching the build I realized that was the proper release. I apologize for that. I'm stumped however.

Yes I removed the sim. when I check for system update it shows system is upto date. Still in 5.0. Lost all the data for nothing.

You have two options
  1. Unlock the bootloader (data gets wiped), and flash the current MRA58K build (factory image). Done.
  2. If you don't want to unlock bootloader, you can use ADB sideload to load up the OTA files one by one - go to [REF] Nexus 6 Stock OTA URLs | Nexus 6 | XDA Forums and choose a path. For example, you could use this path below - sideload the first one, boot up - see if OTA is available. If not, sideload second one, boot up - see if OTA is available... and so on...
    • LRX22C from LRX21O
    • LMY47M from LRX22C
    • LYZ28E from LMY47M
    • LYZ28J from LYZ28E
    • LYZ28K from LYZ28J
    • LYZ28M from LYZ28K
    • MRA58K from LYZ28M

Your sim was out before performing the factory reset and it stayed out after setting the phone up?
rickms80,

When I was setting up after the reset, I observed it was checking for updates and for a second screen showed "updates are downloading" then its gone.
