How long will you keep your phone?

I'm curious to know when people will start holding on to their phone longer than 2 years. Upgrades from year to year are certainly noticeable, but there comes a point, much like TVs and laptops, where the acceleration slows down. Other than the USB-C, I can't imagine in 2 years that something will be out that will prevent me from waiting a 3rd year. Significant battery life improvement would be the biggest reason for me to upgrade, and certainly the aforementioned USB-C, but even still, I'm buying a Nexus 6 and S6 Edge in the near future, and I plan on keeping them both for 3 years minimum.

No more than 6 months for me. Then on to a newer device every time. Right now I carry an N4 and Nexus 6 plus I have the Droid turbo. If the Note 5 is on point bye bye Nexus

Waiting for the next Nexus to come out. Then I'll retire this one. I still need to sell my unopened one I got from Google.

Re: how long will you keep your phone?

Where do u trade em in? I've never used swappa or eBay personally so I don't have much experience, but my Nexus 4 and S4 are in as good condition as possible and I want to upgrade to the S6 Edge and Nexus 6.

More importantly, how's the Nex 6 battery life compare to the 4? I'll use the Edge for business and Nexus for personal, so gaming, going online in the evenings and using it on the weekend when I'm not working will be primarily what it's used for. I get the display resolution, but have a hard time believing a 3200 mAh battery could be as bad as some people make it out to be.

Re: how long will you keep your phone?

I am on Sprint's One Up plan and will be eligible for a new device after one year which will be this November.
That should be when the next Nexus will be out.
I will turn in this phone and get the new one.

VW, just curious, what do you hope they upgrade/improve on the 2015 version?

That's an average of a year and a half per phone ;-)

More seriously, I was hoping to keep my nexus 4 for more than two years, but in the end I got the nexus 6 after two years and a couple of months. I hope I can hold on to this one for something closer to three years, but it will depend on how battery life evolves.

The possibilities are endless.
If, of course, I do not choose to get the next Nexus, I will still be eligible to upgrade in November and with all of the devices that will be released by then, those possibilities are endless too. :)

Re: how long will you keep your phone?

I'll keep mine until I see a phone that I want to purchase. I was looking at the S6 Edge, but the tiny battery + the QHD is a turnoff for me. I may purchase the S6 Active, but the chance of that happening is slim. I don't want the tiny 5.1" screen, especially after using the Nexus 6's huge screen.

I'm going to wait until the back half of the year to get a new phone. I'm not too impressed with the S6, S6 Edge, G Flex 2, or M9 right now. I'll more than likely wait until the next Nexus device comes out.

I got the 64 midnight blue. This phone is beast. It was def worth the money. Specs are top notch. I could see keeping this 2 years or more. I just like switching phones every year.

Until I pay it off in 22 months. The Nexus 6 is pretty future proof and does everything I want it to. As long as it keeps getting Android OS updates than I'm good.

I'll be upgrading to the Nexus 6 in April, then I hope to get 3 years out of it. Battery and USB-C would be the only (foreseeable) things to persuade me otherwise.

I had Lumia 820, bought S5 two years later, changed it for N6 after 6 months, I will probably skips next iteration of Nexuses and buy one in 2 years.
So 1.125year per phone for me atm.
