How many of you are bleeding edge gadget (cellphone?) fans?

How much of a cell phone geek are you?

I was thinking about how I'm actually going to switch from my iPhone 3GS (and not get the next iPhone) in favor of getting the new EVO, and thinking about all the people who are getting the new EVO and I was curious if anyone is switching from some non-super-new phone.

Anyone switching from a free phone to the EVO? That would be cool to hear about it.

I would think the majority of the people who buy this phone, and visit these forums, is some kind of gadget person...

Gadget freak all the way!! Also known as impulsebuyer at times as well lol ... I'm the type of person who sits on the boards months in advance prior to a big launch of a product and know all about it before anyone has even heard of the products name! Its a sickness I tell ya lol ....

Jumping ship from the Pre which was also another big forum hyped up event prior to me waiting on line for it -

I don't need the newest or "best". Hell, when the HTC Supersonic was announced in March, I wasn't too phased (Had a Pre). Only got interested in the Evo about a week before launch. :P Now I'm psyched.

I love gadgets but I also love not spending hundreds of dollars every six months or so, so I tend to buy high-end and keep 'em until they're worn out.

I am also jumping from the Palm Pre (waited in line for it at BB). When I actually brought my 2nd Pre in for a replacement (hardware issue), the Sprint rep told me about the EVO and that's when I was mesmorized by the sheer awesomeness of the EVO. I plan on having this for a year or so and then getting a new/updated phone after that.

I would if I made alot more money, but I like having alot of toys. Like Out door toys, those get really pricey, but I love my tech just as much so i have to trade off what and when I get things. It has been a bit since I got my last tech toy so the EVO is my fix for tech for alittle while.

I've always had dumbphones. Would've liked an iPhone if it didn't cost $140 for the service. I'm not a heavy talker.

Looked at the Android G1, thought it was ugly and half-baked, so didn't give it a 2nd thought.

Then I saw the Pre at CES and that looked awesome and was priced right on Sprint. Bought one at launch day and thoroughly enjoyed the smartphone lifestyle, even though it didn't have many apps. I didn't care. I liked taunting the iPhone people with multi-tasking.

Then performance started to degrade. Constant TMC messages and a snafu with the Sprint Nav started to sour me on the Pre. Wasn't really following Android development. Heard about the Nexus One, but was in the middle of my contract and wasn't gonna pay an ETF to jump to T-Mobile.

Then I saw the EVO. Whoa! Huge, powerful, and boy Android has gotten slick. (i.e. Sense UI) It's coming right when I'm eligible for an upgrade, so I'm stoked. Then I see Froyo and the EVO videos and I'm mad stoked. Hoping to get one Friday morning.

But I don't consider myself a gadget freak or bleeding edge early adopter. It just looks that way for the 2nd year in a row.

Dirk - same with me. The stars aligned, the clouds parted for me to get the EVO. Sprint, upgrade window for Premier, etc.

What's funny is that just a few short years ago, I was on a free dumbphone, texting without a QWERTY keyboard, no internet access, email (yea right), games (what games?), happy with polyphonic ringtones and pulling out an antennae.

Now I couldn't live without a smartphone.

Well, I'm the bottom 2. I buy a nice phone and keep it for a while, however my last phone was free, but it was a nice phone, (BB Curve when released at AT&T), I Kept it for 2-3 years, and when looking for something new, guess what is about to be dropped in my pocket.

I honestly am happy that AT&T is so sloooow with releasing phones, because if the HTC Desire was out 2 months ago I would have been under contract right now. I wouldn't have even thought about the Evo.

definitely an addict, always have to get the newest and best.

money isn't an issue so i pretty much buy whatever sets the standard in the cell phone industry. part of me wishes that someone would make an ultimate phone that had all the features one could want and have it at a premium price. then again we wouldn't have all these 15 year olds hacking them though in their parent's basement
