How much is 6GB really worth, anyways?

Okay, so, I've decided to pick up a U11 to replace my dead Nexus 6P. Just got the money from my Amex extended warranty, and so I can make the purchase any time.

I'm a bit strapped for cash right now, and the increase from the $500 I paid for the Nexus 6p to the $650-$730 for the U11 is already a bit painful. The $80 different between the 4GB/64GB to 8GB/128GB version is therefore relevant.

I know that 64GB is plenty for me, particularly with microSD card support (I have tons of them sitting around unused). So the increase to 128GB doesn't mean much to me.

However, the increase from 4GB to 6GB is what has me wondering. What's everyone's opinion of the impact of the extra 2GB?

The extra RAM is not worth it to me, the extra storage is. Based on you not caring about the storage, I would not buy the 6 GB version.

Both are important to me. Hoping that 6gb ram wards off the inevitable lag creep.

I'm leaning in that direction myself, thanks. I know if you keep tons of apps open then the extra memory matters, but I really don't. I use a handful of apps and my Nexus 6P with 3GB RAM and SD 810 performed more than well enough for me. I can't imagine a SD 835 with 4GB RAM won't be plenty good as well.

Android is pretty good at handling RAM management by default and HTC doesn't mess with it much like some others do. 4 GB is plenty for everything we do now; going to 6 would be about future proofing... and I just don't see it quite yet as being necessary.

One thing about SD storage is that you'd want it to be fast if you plan to use it as adopted storage. The 128 will just have fast storage all around.

Yes, thanks, I understand that aspect. I have some fast cards I can use if I run into a storage issue. I don't imagine I would, though, since I never filled much more than half the 64GB on my Nexus 6P.

One thing I noticed with the U11 is that there is some lag in the camera app. I am hoping that software updates can help with that, but also, the 6gb RAM may help the camera app to be snappier.
