Do you do them often like 'defragging' on your computer?

Some do them to solve problems, do you fully backup and restore??? That would have the potential to load the problem back on again... correct?

So do you load everything back the long way???

What is your preferred method:

- Menu..settings...privacy.....factory data reset

- Or the Clear Storage long method:

Turn the power off. If your HTC EVO 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC EVO 4G. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

i've never hard reset, even after updates. a reboot or two a week seems to keep it running good.

I never used to do full wipes. Even with the custom ROM I'm using I don't have to do full wipes to upgrade to the latest version. Personally I don't think you need to do it unless you're having some serious issues. If you do wipe everything because you're having issues, it's not a good idea to back everything up. Of course back up your contacts, but as far as apps, you can sync your apps with appbrain before you wipe, and just reload the apps one by one to make sure if wasn't an app that was messing your phone up. If you do them one by one through the course of the day, you'll have a better chance of finding an app that's messing things up. With that said, sometimes you can catch a bad app without even having to wipe. If you're using a task killer and you're having a lot of problems, uninstall it, reboot, and never use a task killer again.. Lastly, a hard reset is a hard reset. There is no difference between doing it in recovery, or in the menu. Personally, if I'm going to do a hard reset, I'm also going to wipe the cache and dalvik cache.

I do them constantly when trying new things out, I like that "fresh" feeling, I keep nandroids of good setups in case I need to get back to anything in a hurry and I updated my backups with titanium pretty regularly.

On the flip side my g/f has an Evo and never wipes anything, ever. We did after the froyo update because she had a few issues (i don't remember what they were at this point), but that was it.

I used to do full wipes weekly because I would always want to go back to stock unrooted ROM after flashing a custom one. 4g/3g speeds were always slower than stock...
