I'm not using my old Samsung S5 anymore because it's gotten so slow. I've gotten another phone but I'd also like to reset my S5 to see if that'll make it faster (will it?). But for some reason backing up is proving to be so difficult!!

My new phone is an HTC. I tried Smart Connect or whatever that thing is that enables the two phones to transfer data. But for some reason I can only move from new phone to old, not vice versa. Huh?

I tried Samsung Kies but the damn thing doesn't seem to 'see' the phone when the phone is connected via USB cable. Huh?

I've tried backing up to samsung cloud. That may or may not have worked, but of course for some reason we can't see the cloud. At least not thru the PC. Is there a way to see it otherwise?

I've also tried dropbox but I dont see any changes in my dropbox account when I view it from my PC. It seems my phone can now see my dropbox files instead? Which is fine but not what I was going for.

I'm getting pretty irritated! Can someone help?

PS - I'd like to backup pictures and videos and texts as well.

I might be wrong, but Smart Switch only works to transfer data TO Samsung devices, although it can be installed in most devices to transfer FROM any other brand/OS. Kies was discontinued a while ago, and I can't remember if it still supported the S5 or not, but Smart Switch on the PC should be able to back up your S5 in there... however, same thing applies: you will not be able to restore from a SmartSwitch back up to any phone, just Samsung ones.

For Samsung cloud, while you can't view the exact contents, you can see a general overview of what has been backed up on 'My Samsung' site with your Samsung account login. Again, whatever is backed up there will only be restored to a Samsung phone.

HTC should have a similar back up option, but if it doesn't, you can use Android's native 'Backup and Sync' options, which should prompt you to do so as soon as you sign into your Google account on the new device; just follow the instructions there.

Problem is as stated by Spook, you're backing up to Samsung software. They're not written to restore to non Samsung phones. That's kinda like asking iTunes to restore to a Galaxy. Different brands. Doesn't matter if they're both Android. Samsung isn't going to help you give money to the competitors.

The best you can probably use is Helium Backup. You'll have to transfer other stuff not covered by this yourself.
