Morning,
I downloaded an app that I would like to automatically start each time I power on my Samsung A50 running Android 11.

I am unable to find any autostart setting on my phone.
It COULD be present but I can't seem to find it.

It it possible to autostart apps on Android 11 ?
And if so, how might go about doing that ?

Thanks

Hi, auto restart should be in device care settings

OP is talking about auto-starting a specific app upon powering the phone on, not scheduling the automatic rebooting of the phone.

@JustRay Android doesn't work the same way as Windows, where certain apps that run in the background have to be set to auto-start upon boot. If an Android app is coded to be functioning upon startup, it should automatically be opened in RAM by the system. What app are you referring to?

Yeah i agree if they looking to auto start specific apps .

Thanks to both of you for your time and replies.

I have 2 apps that I have downloaded and would like to start when the phone is powered on.

App 1 is called "Tile" 9version 2.83.0)
It's for the "Tile" product.
(That's the thing(the tile) you attach to your keys and you can make it play a sound (from the app on the phone) so you can find your keys.)
An vise versa so you can find you phone if your have your keys.

App 2 is called "Tell me the time" (Version 1.19.0).
(It announce the time hourly. Annoying for some, but I find it very handy.)

Here's how it works on my phone.
I'll just speak of the Tile app cuz both work identically as far as restarting is concerned.
If the Tile app is running and I choose to restart the phone (for any reason), the Tile app starts automatically. A GOOD thing,
If the Tile app is running and I choose to power off the phone and then power it on at a later time, the Tile app starts automatically. Again, a GOOD thing,

BUT ,,,
If I end the Tile app (usually by mistake) and then either restart the phone or power it down and up again, the Tile app does NOT start,
I need to start it manually.

So, I was looking for a way to make the Tile app start up regardless of if it was running (or not) before the shutdown takes place,
Did I say that right ?
Hmmmm....
Yes, yes I think I did.

So you know, I tried to do some research on this before my post. (Rather than just ask a question that may already have been asked.)
I had read a number of posts on the Internet as well as watched a video on YouTube that claims or shows(in the case of the video) an "autostart" setting on the phone (The video I watched claims it is on Android 11), but I can't find any such thing on my phone.

Thank again to the both of you for your time

The only thing i can think of if you keep those apps locked to your recent open app list to prevent Android system closing them out.

If you accidentally close the Tile app from RAM and it doesn't automatically get opened back into RAM, your phone is unable to locate your other Tiles? If needed, the app should simply restart on its own.

mustang7757's suggestion sounds like the best option. You could also try turning off Battery Optimization for the app in the system settings.

Ray's reply:
Thanks for that.
I will need to look into how to do such a thing.

You could try using Macrodroid with a macro that has a trigger of Device Reboot and an action of Launch Application

Thanks. I'll research how to do that.

Ray's reply:
Yes. Because I don't have a Tile UI from which to choose the specific tile to search for.

And then B, Diddy wrote:

Ray's reply:
I didn't know that.
If I don't do anything after restarting the phone, the Tile UI never appears on the phone.
BUT, if I go to Developer Options / Running Services / Show cached processes, then I can see the name of the Tile app listed.
But of course, I don't have a UI.
But, if I activate the tile itself (by pressing the button in the center of the tile), the Tile app on the phone sounds a tone. (This is exactly what should happen when your trying to find your phone from the tile itself.
So, it sounds like the Tile app on the phone is in memory, but unfortunately, no UI.

What I tried, and with success, was to download and install an app named "Auto Start" from the Google Play store.
Once installed I could configure it to start the tile app when the phone is powered on or restarted after the Tile app was ended on the phone.
It works AND I have a Tile UI.
Of course I would prefer to do this via a well know Android routine.
But this MAY work.
I'll need to run it for a few day to see if the "Auto Start" app behaves itself.

What do you mean that you don't have the Tile UI to pick a specific Tile to search for? Are you talking about a widget on the homescreen? Or a persistent notification in your notification panel?

Can you just tap the Tile app to open it again, if you're trying to search for a specific Tile?

(Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the Tile app -- I did get some Tiles a while back, but never really used them after briefly experimenting with them.)

Good Wednesday morning.
And thanks for your continued interest in my issue.
Much appreciated.

Ray's reply:
When the Tile app is running on my Galaxy A50, I usually access it by click on the "Overview/Recents" button at the bottom of my phone screen
Here is what THAT looks like on my phone
Overview-Recents button.jpg

Once I tap on that button, and if the Tile app is running on my phone, here is what I see.
It's the Tile app user interface.
Tile UI.jpg

And it was this User interface that was missing when the Tile app was NOT found in the Settings / Developer Options / Running services but WAS listed in Settings / Developer Options / Running Services / Show Cached Processes

The issue I was struggling to explain was that even though the tile attached to my key ring could reach the Tile app on my phone, (cuz the Tile app was running in Cached memory ?), there was no Tile UI anywhere on the phone that I could use to reach out and touch any of my 4 tiles that are attached to various thing.

Of note:
I have 4 tiles that are attached to various things including 1 that is attached to my keys.

To make our conversation easier, I removed 3 of the 4 tile from the Tile UI before I made my screen shot.

From the Tile UI, if I tap on "Keys", the tile on my key ring plays a rather loud tune which helps me locate my keys after I have lost them.

Just tap tile icon on the card in recent app list and should give option lock it keep open

Don't rely on the App Overview/Recent Apps screen to access your apps. Instead, just place a shortcut for the Tile app on your homescreen and tap it when you want to access it.

mustang7757, your a genius !

I've implemented your suggestion and it works perfectly.
Since I can no longer inadvertency "end" the Tile app, it will automatically start up regardless if I perform a restart or a power recycle.
I've tested it and it works.

Now, I was able to uninstall the 3rd party app named Auto Start. (I so dislike installing things on my phone or laptop unless I absolutely need them.)

Thanks again

Oh ... okay, if you think that's best.
I now have a shortcut for the Tile app on my home screen and I'll use THAT to access the Tile app from now on.

Thanks for the advice and all of your help, patience and advice while my issue was resolved.

Ya gotta play with the "big boys and girls" or you will never get better at anything.
I learned so much from you and mustang7757.

Thanks again

I am so glad your problem is now resolved. It is a good feeling all round when that happens. The questioner feels good and the advice givers feel good too. Happy Wednesday to you too.
