Android Central Question

At work we have a captive portal for the wifi, and I had saved the password in my phone so I didn't have to re-enter the username and password all the time (it kicks you off every 30 minutes and you have to reconnect). Well this week they changed the password, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to start using the new one instead of the old one. I have tried clearing the data of the CaptivePortalLogin app, I have deleted all the passwords out of Chrome, I have forgotten the wifi network, but no matter what I do it keeps filling in the old password. When I manually enter the correct password it pops up a thing asking me if I'd like to save it, and I click yes, but it still continues to use the old password anyway. I just want to figure out where the old password is stored so I can remove it, but I'm out of ideas.

"Forget" the connection, then enter it again. You can't change the password.

That's weird. That info was saved in the CaptivePortalLogin app and clearing data should be enough. Maybe something changed with Oreo.

Also, do you have the same problem signing from the browser and from the login notification?

If I sign in from the browser it does not fill the old password, but it won't fill the new one either, only the username.

Done.

And same thing if you try the login from the notification bar?

No, if I log in from the notification bar it fills in the old username and password, not the new one.

Something I've noticed is that when I access it through the notification bar and have it fill it says something to the effect of "Only autofill if you trust CaptivePortalLogin" which implies to me it's pulling the password from somewhere else.

Problem solved! I just had to delete every saved password out of my Google account...

I think what was happening was I was deleting the old password off my phone, but then it was back-filling it from my PC which syncs to the same saved passwords. When I completely cleared the sync it stopped doing it and I was able to save the new password. My passwords were syncing with an old passphrase, so I couldn't actually manage them from the Google passwords site, but now they're just syncing with my regular password so hopefully next time it changes I'll be able to just delete the one out from the manager website and be done with it.

Excellent! Good catch! Glad you managed to solve it and thanks for the follow. It'll be very helpful for other people with a similar issue.
