learning curve coming from my BBpearl. Two nights in a row. Plugged phone into wall, looked like it was charging but the light was so bright it lit up the room, so I pressed on/off button and POWER OFF. result:

in morning:

- Alarm did not go off
- phone did not charge

is this normal? (BB was different...)

well, your alarm is not going to go off if your phone is powered off, because it requires power to make a noise. I would suggest having the phone on and simply placing it face-down overnight.

I'm pretty positive I ran across a setting that said "backlight on while charging" You should be able to turn that off OR just hit the lock button. That will darken the screen.

You can just launch the desk clock application and then click on the crescent moon/star button to dim the display.

Exactly what the blackberry pearl does. Hence the question

James - great idea! thanks. going to try it tonight

I used to be a blackberry user as well, and the alarm while powered off was a pretty nice feature.

Anyways, when I plug my Inc in for the night all that's left on is the tiny orange led. I'm pretty sure I never changed a setting, not sure why its keeping your backlight on while charging.

the blackberrys alarm still goes off because the only way to completely turn off a blackberry is to pull the battery out.

the soft power off basically puts the phone into standby.

you can just tap the power button on the inc and the screen will shut off, but keep the phone on.

you can also use the desk clock's dim mode as described above.

ok im jumping kinda of topic. but how long does it take to fully charge the Inc? my md would take 2 hours fully charged,, inc takes over 3 hours doesnt seem correct.. i mean in two hours it was only at 45% charged...

I'm finding that the Inc charges quicker using the outlet adapter and not the USB port on my computer. Just my observation. I can get from 40% to 100% in about an hour.

Mine took 2hrs 15 minutes to charge the very first time. Currently I'm charging the second time and it's been on for a bit over an hour and still not done. I have no reason to believe it will take more than 2 hours, I figure about an hour fifteen minutes maybe an hour and a half.

Lol, I felt like I was losing brain cell's reading the other post.

What happened to basic knowledge?

Some people are just coming to grips with technology like this, not everyone is as knowledgeable or skilled as others. Patience while they all catch up!

the main reason for the confusion regarding the sleep mode comes from BB users who would "power off" their phones at night.

holding the power key on a blackberry really just puts it into sleep mode, as the only way to really turn it off is to pull the battery.

powering down an android phone actually turns it off, so some users (who didn't read the manual i'm guessing :p) powered down their device at night thinking it worked the same way as a blackberry didn't get their wake up alarm in the morning because the phone was actually off, and thought that this was some kind of bug.
