Android Central Question

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 with broken screen and I'm planning to purchase a new phone of exactly the same model to replace the broken one. How do I clone the data from the old phone to the new one so that all apps work as before?

Using Samsung Smart Switch or similar software doesn't clone the phone properly as a lot of apps lose data or fail to work and need to be set up again.

So again my task to do byte by byte clone between the same phone models. Thanks.

I used to work at Verizon and handled multiple transfers a day, to my knowledge Android still doesn't have a solution to completely clone a phone, it's one of the few things I think Apple does better.

Even if Android had a home screen backup/copy function then that would help, as opposed to needing to rely on 3rd party launchers like Nova.

Samsung does , Smart switch pc or connect between phones , every phone I had backed pretty much everything, password from Samsung, alarms, home screen, apps, settings, clocks etc.. I had close to nothing to add after new set-up.Screenshot_20211023-095536_Samsung%20Cloud.jpg

I'll have to try it out. I'd like to sometimes, for example, to try to sync home screens between Samsung phone and tablet, but not specifically backup/switch all the other stuff.

Even Apple isn't doing this precisely anymore. My dad just upgraded to an iPhone 13, he selected to restore from his last iCloud backup but he ended up having to wait for his apps to install from the app store. One of the things Apple changed in the last few years was that an app installed on a device only contained the support for THAT device rather than ALL devices in order to save space. This makes using a 'clone' to restore from an olde device to a new one a little more difficult.

I tried this out finally the other day and it didn't work too bad. I unfortunately didn't only select the home screen settings / layout to copy over, but also copied apps (or so I thought it would, but then the second device just went out afterwards and separately went to play store to get the apps). It screwed up some of my password associations from my password keeper. Also, at the same time I used it to copy over all my email account settings (to not have to retype those all in), but none of the email account passwords came over and I had to enter all of those manually (pain in the arse with 2FA steps, etc.). However, for home screen layout copying it worked almost flawless.

Thanks very much @mustang7757

That'll probably be a next thing to try (those password managers), although at present I think I probably have an illogical aversion against google and might be inclined to steer towards what ever Samsung offers, even though I am told there is more degree of privacy/control through google. Thanks again.

I've used Samsung pass for long time and it's pretty good/Safe but I use other andriod phones so Google helps with that where I can't use Samsung pass .

I can't seem to "get" Samsung Pass. For me, it doesn't show up in the Google Play Store or in the Galaxy Store as an app, for searching from either of my Samsung Devices. The tablet I have is a bit older and doesn't have a fingerprint scanner. So, maybe that is why I can't find it for that one. However, the A21 has a fingerprint scanner. It's supposed to also show up in settings under biometrics, but it doesn't.

On the A21 go ro settings>top search bat type Samsung pass it should show up .

In Galaxy store it comes up Samsung Pass or Auto fill with Samsung PassScreenshot_20220206-175757_Galaxy%20Store.jpgScreenshot_20220206-175937_Galaxy%20Store.jpg

I'd expect both those to find it, but it doesn't for my A21 or my Tablet situation. I assume I might have a certain permission for Samsung Account or Service turned off. When I check Samsung services, it does say I haven't yet tried Samsung Pass yet (for both my Tablet and Phone), but from that screen it doesn't let any of the services/apps be selected for enabling/installing. I had a similar problem with Samsung Messages earlier, and was never able to find it (for me) in one of the app stores, until one day an update for it showed up in Galaxy Store.
