how to close an app keeping it i the background?

Just what the title says. I want to quickly switch to the desktop view without killing the app.
Is there a way?

One can relocate the app to the secondary home screen with a left/right swipe motion. Once you've located the secondary screen, learn how to get there with the swipe. Then tap/hold the app until the screen fades and the grid appears. Still holding the app.. drag to the secondary home screen. Once the app has been relocated, swipe back to your main/home screen. The app should remain active for as long as you've allowed it within the settings.
