How to connect the S3 to a monitor?

I really want to be able to read my emails at work, but using my phone is annoying, especially when I have a desktop sitting in front of me. I know there are HDMI cables that exist that I could possibly use, but I was wondering what you guys had to say.

I have two HP Compaq LA2205wg monitors at work and ideally i'd like to view my phone in a window if possible. But if not I guess I could use one of them for my phone and if possible switch back and forth?

Welcome to the forums.
You should be able to use this: Samsung HDMI Smart Adapter Bundle (MHL Port + MHL to HDMI Adapter) for Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Express - Android Chargers & Cables
If your monitor has an HDMI connector.

Thanks for the welcome and the response. The manual says my monitor supports VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort and it has HDCP support, so I assume I would have to get some kind of HDMI adapter to plug into the HDMI adapter you suggested.

And even then it would use up one of my monitors and I would need a separate keyboard and mouse to use with it, right?

That adaptor does allow to plug a full sized HDMI into a micro USB. I have one, works for my S2.

If you use the MHL<>HDMI adapter on the phone then you could connect directly to an HDMI port on the monitor (you didn't list one though).

And if you wanted to control the phone with a mouse/keyboard, rather than the touchscreen, then you'd need a Bluetooth combination because you can't use USB-on-the-go with the MHL<>HDMI adapter.

Then the HDMI adapter is the wrong one. A DVI-D adapter is what you want.

Now, to plug a mouse and keyboard in, a USB hub is what you want. One with a wall wart will keep the phone charged, but if you use it on a PC, don't use the wall wart. It will backfeed the 5 volts to the PC. DAMHIK

I meant I would need an adapter to plug that into the monitor that I have. I assume you thought I meant to plug it into my S3 right?

Thanks. I'm a little unclear about what you're saying with using the keyboard and mouse. With what you described would I still need a separate ones?

Has anyone used this on their GS3 i535?
I've used the Samsung original part to connect my Verizon S3 to my TV with no issues. I can't speak to this eBay part.

This looks like an even better option if you don't mind the price.

Looks like I'll be the test subject on it. Should get it by early next week.

It turned out to be a Samsung adapter, and works great. Direct connection to the HDMI on the TV. Sound and all works.
