I just received my Nexus 7 and can't figure out for the the life of me how to copy files from my pc to the device. When I plugged in the N7 to my Win 7 pc the first time an error popped that said it failed to install the drivers. Every time I plug it in since then, the computer doesn't even recognize the device. On the N7, it will acknowledge that it was plugged in and that's it.

How can I get my pc to recognize this thing?

I am not sure how to fix your problems, it could be a driver issue.

However, you can use this app to transfer files to / from your tablet and PC without a USB cable. Your computer and table have to be on the same wifi network:

Air Droid

Unplug the N7. Turn the computer off. Plug the tablet back in via USB, and turn the computer back on.

Just tried mine for the first time since my purchase. Took only a few seconds for my Windows 7 machine to recognize it....you should be able to see your device. Like F34R said try rebooting and reconnecting the N7.

Install the Nexus root toolkit to your PC and follow the directions within.
It will guide you through removing and installing Drivers.

Do you have an office app installed on your N7 something like quick office?

I use Airdroid to copy files to and from my nexus 7. Just have to both be connected to the same WiFi network. Additionally you can backup and install apps with it's interface.

It would probably work better for you to upload your Microsoft Word documents to Google Drive on your PC. You can access Google Drive on your PC by going to drive.google.com, hitting the Upload button (right next to the Create button), and selecting your documents to upload. I think Google Drive will give you the option of converting your Microsoft Word document to Google Docs.

Once you've uploaded the documents to Google Drive's cloud, you can then access them using your Nexus 7's Google Drive app.

If your tablet doesn't already have Google Drive, search for it on the Google Play Store and install it. On the PC, Google Drive is a browser-based cloud service, so no app is necessary--just go to drive.google.com, and make sure you have a Google account. There is a Google Drive program that can be installed on your PC that puts a virtual drive icon on your desktop, but I'm not sure how beneficial it is, and it certainly isn't necessary to take advantage of Google Drive.
