how to disable data connection via all (3g etc.) except WiFi

I use fascinate in PagePlus which leases Verizon network. Because I don't have data plan and only want to use Internet in WiFi area, is there any way to disable data connection via wireless service except WiFi? I tried APNdroid, it didn't seem work. My phone just gets rooted, does the rooting help stopping the data connection permanently?

I'm not sure what network the Verizon uses for data connection, 3g and something else? Many thanks.

try an app called tasker. you can find it on the market. you need to be rooted to use it.

I guess it matters to the Data Roaming, it was ticked in the settings, now I untick/disable it and will try if that helps.

give tasker a try. its a bit complicated to set up but you can do just about anything.

i use an app called DCSwitch, works well and turns off the 3g as long as you want it off, allows wi fi to work. no root needed and easy to install and use

finally I got the winner: Quick Settings, completely stop the data connection.
BTW, APNdroid or DataSwitch didn't work for me.

UPDATE: and every time I reboot my phone, I need to set again: turn on and turn off the "mobile data" connection in the "Quick Settings".

FWIW, it looks like Froyo for the Fascinate now allows you to individually kill the data connection without having to go into Airplane mode.

I've tried every single option to do the same. Use Juice Defender. You can even put a button on your home screen to turn data on and off.
