how to disable sms and whatsapp preview?

Unfortunately 'heads up' previews are now a part of the system thanks to the Nougat update. I hate it too. The only way to get around it without fully muting notifications is to enable lighting edge notifications. It still shows a preview pop-up but a much smaller, tolerable one.

There might be 3rd party apps that might help, but I fear most will require root for this.

Hi... am having the same prob. This might help. It helps mine tho. No pop ups... but still receiving notification sounds..Go to setting...notification...advance notification. Thts where you can choose which apps to stop them from popping up. Hope it works.
