Is this legit? I'm trying to find the fastest way to root my phone.

Won't work. Welcome to 2.2.2, the android version our phones have, which blocks psneuter and RATC.

I know, i get it 100%. It's like we all speak a different language. The cool thing (to me) though is after a week or two of solid solid reading these forums, you'll be speaking the same language. This forum is more effective than rosetta stone

IMO its much better to discuss rooting and such publicly so other users can get useful information. Private messages are better for, well, private things.

As KSmith said, a week or so of reading (and doing your homework) on the forums and you will be able to root among other things in your sleep.

Trust me bro, I'm in the process of trying to root my Optimus S right now just to see what all the hype about ThundeROM is and although complex, you'll get the hang of it. Just be patient and read the forums. No one is going to hold your hand -- all the info you need is here.

Now, if I could only get off this black screen...

If you've got black screen woes, you have the newer screen. Use androidscreencast - Desktop app to control an android device remotely - Google Project Hosting to see your screen on your PC and you can get through it.
