Hi All,

I just got a gear 2 and I can not swipe Up from home screen to launch dialer or down to launch camera, it was preset on my Gear 1. is this a setting in Gear manager on the Gear 2?

Here are gestures on Gear 1
Thank you,

Shane

Here are some gestures for the Gear 1 but they are not working on my Gear 2. Do I need to enable this in Settings or Gear Manager?

Swipe and Tap Gestures
As with any touch screen devices, you swipe left or right to navigate the different home screens on the Galaxy Gear. There are also a series of other swipe gestures that you should remember when using the Galaxy Gear. They are:

  • Swipe downwards from the top of the display to activate the camera function of the Galaxy Gear. Do note that the screen must be turned on before executing this action, and the action is only supported on the default clock screen.
  • Swipe upwards from the bottom of the display to open Dialer. It only works on the idle clock screen.
  • Swipe downwards from the top of the display in any app to go back to the previous screen.
  • There are also two touch gestures that you must know in order to operate the Galaxy Gear.

  • Double tap on any screen with two fingers to access the brightness and volume controls, and show the Bluetooth and battery status.
  • Tap and hold any screen with two fingers to view the list of recently used apps.

I believe the home button eliminated the need for some gestures. Swiping down now takes you back. The home button of course takes you to your home screen. You can set the action of double tapping the home button to open many different apps...I chose this as the way to access the camera rapidly. Of course., sweeping left and right switches screens. You can also pinch icons to make them smaller, and press and hold them to drag them from page to page. I placed my most frequently used apps on the first page to the right of the home screen for maximum convenience.

I like having the home button on the bottom but even on my 1st gear I was able to set the Double Tap to pedometer or settings then swipe Up was dialer and swipe down was camera, that made getting into the Camera and Phone easily; can that not be done anymore on the Gear 2? that would surprise me if I was the only one using that.

I don't believe that is possible. I could be wrong. But dude, set the home button double click to the camera (gets you to the camera just just as fast as before) and swipe one screen to the right or left to get your dialer and click it (may take half a second longer than before).

I have the same problem with this new Gear. I use the double tap to launch the "sometimes acurate" S-Voice app for quick voice dialing (it's the only way to do it quickly), and therefore needed to have the "swipe up" set for easy access to the camera when needing to take a quick picture. Now I have to choose between them because Samsung changed it so you can't have both anymore, along with a few other things that were taken out from the Gear 1...that sucks!!! The Gear 2 should have just improved on the Gear 1, not remove some of the great features that were already there.

The best improvement on the G2 to me is the IR blaster for using WatchOn.

I would definitely be interested in getting this to work again. App shortcuts from the home screen really made the G1 nice to use. While the home screenS are a nice edition, the shortcuts just made the watch flow. Sad to see they got rid of this.
