How to factory reset a dead phone?

First, is there anything on there to reset if the SD card and SIM is removed? The screen is dead so I can't get into it to reset it to factory settings as requested by the insurance company so I can return it.

Second, I noticed a little copper hole in the back under the battery. Is that a reset hole?

Oh. I wonder if I can use the locator app and remotely wipe it? Just put the battery back in and the sim? But I already activated the new phone? Would it work?

Using the locator app to wipe it sounds like your best bet. Or there might be a way to do it using Samsung kies. Not sure though.

Kies didn't work because I have it Pin locked. And without a screen, I can't unlock it. See, that's what I get for finally putting a real lock on. I usually just use the swipe but decided I should be a big girl and use a real lock.

LOL What about waving a big magnet over it a few times?

Hey! I did it! I did it blind, basically. Watched a video on it and read a few forum posts across the 'Net. Counted down the clicks, then when I selected the reset, just let it sit there for a long time. Now when Kies and my PC see it, it's there and brand spankin' new! Hoot!

Next up, transferring all my backups over to the new phone and packing the dead one up to get sent back. Fun fun fun.
