How to fix text message preview to restore recipient's name?

For a long time, probably since the lollipop update, my text message preview suddenly stopped working on the lock screen and just showed a generic "Message - New Message" card. I've done -everything- that I could think of and read on the forums to fix the issue but nothing has worked. I've cleared the data/cache and rebooted the phone, nothing. I've obviously tried to re-enable text message preview and reboot the phone, nothing. I'd like a solid solution coming from someone who understands the issue. I want to see the recipient's name and message in my text message preview, period.
