how to flash mods?

i cant seem to find any good directions(for me) on how to flash mods...maybe its simple or maybe im missing something but i cant seem to understand how to do it
specifically incredibly reengineered 2.3
anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

I'm not really sure what you mean by "mods"? There are many different things that can be considered "mods". You have ROMs, kernels, radios, even themes. If you are thinking of flashing a new ROM onto your Incredible, there is a very helpful thread right here in these forums; http://forum.androidcentral.com/inc...w-root-un-root-rom-your-droid-incredible.html Literally breaks it down step by step.

From what it sounds like so far, your knowledge of root, etc. is pretty limited, so I would really suggest reading quite a bit before trying anything. It is pretty easy to mess things up if you don't know what you are doing.

yes i am new to the whole rooting thing. i am rooted running skyraider but i wanna try chingys rom. and there are mods to change the appearance of the rom. that is what i can not seem to find out how to do...is it as simple as doing the same thing as flashing the rom except not wiping anything or do i need to put it somewhere specific before flashing?
if there is a good link to read about this id love to see it but ive been on 3 different sites trying to figure it out and am not getting it...

If they are flashable mods - they are .zip files - then yes you can just reflash the mod over top of the rom - If you want to wipe cache and dalvik it won't hurt anything. The .zip can be anywhere on the SD.

As Crondable said, this guide here is the best How to root, unroot, and ROM your Droid Incrediblel. Gives very detailed instructions and screenshots to help you along the way.

And it sounds like what you're looking for are just themes and OS skins. You can either flash the theme using the recovery/install .zip method, or sometimes you don't even need to do that and can just download the theme off the marketplace and apply it (like ADW Launcher Themes).

whenever I am going to use a new mod (such as the Clear Rosie Mod for skyraider) I just DL the zip to my computer, place on the root of my SD card, then I reboot into manual recovery, clear regular cache. and Dalvik cache (located under 'advanced)... there is NO NEED to do a full wipe... after you clear both of those, just flash the zip like you would any other zip... reboot and you should be good to go... good luck. and as Crondable said, research as much as possible... I spent days just READING, and READING about everything I could when I was new to all this too... also, it is very helpful to read through entire threads regarding what ever you are interested in... like if i were you I would read through the whole incredibly reengineered 2.3 thread, I promise it will take some time but it will answer ALOT if not every question you may have or problem you could encounter.... since your new to this, just take our advice and READ READ READ, and the READ SOME MORE good luck bud
