How to force update?

The evo 4g is still stuck on 2.1 is there a way to make it update. I tried update phone but it doesn't update. I tried looking for Google frameworks in the phone but I can't find it. Is there any way to force the update without root ?

Wait, wait, wait, wait...you mean to tell us that your HTC EVO 4G is still on Eclair? Don't worry, I'm not being sarcastic. Where did you get the phone, what has been done to the phone (in terms of mods, physical damage, etc.) and you want to update it to GingerBread, correct?

Yea lol its my cousin's phone and the firmware version says "2.1-update". I don't think its rooted or anything I tried to go to recovery and it didn't work

As far as I know, if the bootloader is unlocked, I'm not sure it will update via OTA. So, no mods, not even a custom Recovery? Hmm...I guess just look for an HTC EVO 4G RUU with GingerBread.
