How to get a word file to Galaxy filesystem?

Hello all,

I recently got my wife a Galaxy Note 8 for traveling. She will need to take along some files, e.g., MS Word files. Since she is not going to be able to count on WiFi access at all times, I want to figure out how to get the files onto the tablet so she can see them there (and hopefully use Polaris office to edit them). Obviously getting the files into her Dropbox from the PC is easy. I can see the file that I put there as a test from Dropbox on the Galaxy. But how do I get the file actually downloaded to the Galaxy where she can work on them?

I have used ES File Explorer on my Android phone to transfer files to where I want them. (For example, to sync my Keepass database file.) But is there a better way? Is there a simpler way. My wife is OK just using Word or a browser, but she is very tech-fragile. If anything is at all different, she tends to have a lot of trouble. So I'm looking for the most straightforward possible way of dealing with downloading files. As I say, just using files directly from dropbox is not going to work since the tablet is not always going to be connected to the cloud.

Thanks,
Paul

I think the most straightforward method would be to put the word document onto a folder in the Note 8's internal storage via a PC and USB Cable. You can then open it with your preferred Word editor (e.g., something like Kingsoft Office.)

Thanks, wizzrah. I'll have to try that. I have kept searching and trying and so far I have discovered that it seems to be possible to just have Dropbox sync with a folder called DocumentSync. I more or less stumbled on that while trying to get Polaris Office to do anything. On the other hand, I got the sync to happen a couple of times, having managed to get a file from the PC to Dropbox to the Galaxy, made some changes to test, and then got the changed document back to the PC. The problem now is that I can't seem to replicate the sync. I now have a couple of docx files in the Dropbox and a(n old) version of one of them in DocumentSync, but I can't seem to get either Dropbox or Polaris to force another sync. Very frustrating!

Thanks,
Paul

You can also try this. You can download Wifi File Transfer on the Note 8. Open the app. It will display an IP address (e.g, 10.0.0.7:3721). When your done editing the word document, just visit the address on your PC, and you'll be able to upload the document to the tablet wirelessly.

This is what it looks like when you visit the IP Address on your PC.

I don't know if this is the most reliable way, since you need an internet connection.
