how to get unlocked samsung galaxy s3 back to locked carrier

sorry if this has been asked. i've done numerous forum searches, but have only found ways to 'unlock' a carrier phone. how do i lock it? i'd like to update from ics to jelly bean.

You don't need to lock it back to a carrier to get the update. All locking does is make it so the phone can only be used with a particular carrier. Even phones which have been rooted can still receive updates.
