How to hide recent contacts when composing text

I'm trying to,figure out if it's possible to hide your recent contacts when composing a new text message on the lg v 10

Can you be more specific? I don't have anything getting in the way when I compose a new text message.

I too am lost. When composing a new text, it takes up my entire screen blocking everything under it.

I'm on Verizon - using the stock texting program.

I miss where this is unpredictable behavior. Mine looks exactly the same.

Every smartphone I've ever owned has done this when I click to compose a new message.

I don't see anything "in the way" about this screen.

My screen IS the same, at that state of sending a message. The original question was how to I hide recent contacts? What is that, the bar at the top? I still don't see a problem that needs fixed, or really understand the original question.
