How to increase internal storage on android device?

Does your Android device display "insufficient storage available"? It bothers me to see an error message saying "insufficient storage available" when trying to download an app with little space. I know that Android limits the download of a new app only if we have less than 15MB of space on our device.

How do I fix this "insufficient storage available" error message?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone do you have? Android devices usually need far more than 15 MB free in order to install apps -- it's usually more like at least 300 MB. The system needs a certain amount of free space to use for its own purposes, apart from installing apps.

You need to either free up space (by deleting large files or uninstalling large apps) or get a new phone with more internal storage (64 GB is pretty much the bare minimum these days if you want to install modern apps). If your phone has an SD slot, you can of course move large media files or documents to the card, but that usually doesn't free up much space. If the phone supports Adoptable Storage (i.e., formatting the card as Internal Storage), you should be able to install apps to the card, but that often leads to subpar experience, since the performance takes a hit owing to the slower read/write speeds to the card. SD cards are also less reliable than internal storage, so if/when they become corrupt, there is high risk for data loss.
