Well, this will not make your phone HAVE gingerbread, only the LOOK of it.

You can help add to this thread by posting below.

Applications:
*Yelp
*Gingerbread Launcher: makes the launcher at the bottom of the screen the standard gingerbread launcher.

To set it up: Press the home button a few times, it will give you a choice, click "Gingerbread Launcher" and use as default.

so guys, lets add to this!

So I just download these apps and it will look like gingerbread on my LG Optimus V android 2.2?

ummm the optimus actually runs REAL gingerbread, with the screen off animations and advanced text editing and all the upgrades that gingerbread has to offer over froyo.

why does this thread exist? install I.H.O.

Only problem with your "gingerbread look" will be the status bar... Its easy to make your launcher gingerbread, but the status bar will be your downfall. The only way to get the status bar to be gingerbread is to flash a gingerbread ROM or flash some status bar mod.

What is I.H.O.??

a custom rom for the optimus V that is synced with the latest CyanogenMod 7.1

cm7 is THE most popular 3rd party android rom.

sooo its a VERY good rom, when you load it for the first time, its a stock installation of 2.3.7 Gingerbread, with a lot of custom options in the menu to really make the phone "fit" you. it starts stock though, with all the goodies that come with Gingerbread. instead of just Froyo with a gingerbread theme.

OK So I understand that my V can be customized to have Gingerbread and I'm curious in doing that but are there any downsides to doing so?

Are any functions lost? Does battery life suffer? Etc?

And what are the benefits to doing so.

My V is 2.2.2 and I have it rooted but that's about the extent to my customizing of it.

Hmm OK well it sounds awesome and I'd love to give it a try! I rooted my phone using the she'll root option of superoneclick but where do I go from here? Btw thanks so much for helping me and please keep in mind I'm not a programmer or anything so simplicity is best. :)

Ok, so first look at the sticky in the modding sub-forum here.

Scroll down and choose a ROM that you want. Click the link and download the file it gives you.

Put the .zip file you downloaded onto your phone's sdcard.

turn your phone off. Then, holding down the BACK key VOL DOWN key and POWER key, you reboot into recovery (use the volume keys to move up and down in recovery and camera button to select).

BEFORE flashing the ROM, do a backup of your current setup. In recovery, select backup and restore, then select backup. It will take a while but it is worth backing up before flashing a ROM.

Once you've BACKED UP everything, in recovery, do a data wipe/reset and a dalvik cache wipe, which is found under "advanced" in recovery.

Once you've done this select "install zip from sdcard"-->"select .zip from sdcard" and find the the .zip that you put on the sdcard and install it:D it will take a while but when it's done, reboot and enjoy:cool:

If I've left anything out please tell me somebody;) because I don't want to cause anybody trouble. I can't emphasize enough backing everything up though.

what was left out

not only do you download the rom but you must download gapps (place them on sd card)
then wipe data/reset, and wipe dalvik (under advanced)
then go to mounts and storage
format data systems cache and boot.

then your ready to install from sd card, select the rom's zip file and flash it. once thats complete select the gapps zip file and flash that. then your ready to restart.

Thanks Camf3xu, I knew I left some stuff out, because I just figured out how to do it all just the other day. I flashed the Bumblebee ROM but didn't flash Gapps... so I had to update my apps when it booted;)
