How to open links in the Messenger app (adroid)??

[Android Central Question]

I have a LG G6 cellphone. I am not able anymore to open links received in Messenger. Either a recipe, a newspaper article, etc. I click on it and nothing.

It used to open in a browser or in the Facebook app but noting now. Here what I tried already:

- In the Messenger app, went under my picture, under Photos and medias and check the "open links in browser": nothing
- Powerd off and restarted my cellphone: nothing
- Uninstalled and installed it again, the messenger app: nothing

What am I missing?

Make sure permission on for storage?

Try going settings>apps>3 dots tap>reset app preferences

Welcome to Android Central! What if you uncheck that "Open links in browser" option? I'm wondering if that option is meant to allow opening links in the messenger app's own rudimentary browser (rather than you main browser app, like Chrome). Since that phone is old, it's possible that the functionality to open links within the messenger app's own browser is no longer working correctly. So it'd be better to try to open the links using an external browser like Chrome.
