How to override automatic power saving at 5% battery life

I like to use my phone until the battery dies but the phone goes into power saving when under 5% battery life and I can find no way to disable it in order to adjust brightness or use the light.

I'm pretty sure you can't. You'll notice your flash won't work either. It's one of those things that the phone companies want to make sure of - that you have a phone longer than you have the rest of the tools of the smartphone.

That is my problem yes. There must be some way to get around that. I bought an android because I didn't want my phone telling me how to use it.
