How to Place a call on hold?

How do I place a call on hold while I pick up another call? I always drop the previous caller.

I have the Verizon S3

I just accepted the second call and it didn't drop the first one. When I ended the second call, my phone vibrated and acted as if I was getting a new call, but the caller said she didn't call me back, so it must have been a notification that it was switching me back (though I assumed I had lost her and she was calling back).

Should.be able to just hit the button that allows you to answer the 2nd call before hitting "end" on the 2nd call....
