How to prevent the upgrade to android 9 on my Nokia 8?

Android Central Question

I have a new Nokia 8 TA1012 with android 8.1.0 on it that I dare not enable WiFI because I do not want to upgrade to android 9 until the problem android 9 has with the Nokia 8 compass is sorted out. How can I prvent this upgrade from happening?
