I found the Verizon link that shows how to disable their voicemail that came installed by default on my S4, and I'd like to replace it with Google Voice. I don't want to port a number or anything that would be costly. I just want a way to receive voicemails, and I figured that Google Voice would do the job as long as it's free. Has anyone done what I'm trying to do?

If you don't need a Google Voice number but want to use Google Voice for voicemail you can use Google Voice Lite.

Maybe you'll also like some of the other features it provides such as transcripts, specialized voicemail messages, etc. It's about the same as the regular GV except you just don't get a GV number.
