How to resize widgets with Pixel's stock launcher?

I am trying to use the Pixel launcher but am about ready to switch to Nova launcher because I can't figure out how to resize widgets.

For example, I have a stock market widget. I put it on its own screen but it takes only half the screen so I only see half the stocks.

With Nova, I can resize the widget to take up the entire screen and see a lot more data at a glance.

Maybe there is a hidden way that will allow me to resize widgets with the stock launcher?

I tried long press to resize because that is how I used to resize with Nova, but I get no widget resize option.

some widgets can't be manipulated. but the ones that can, you would do it with the long press.
