I'm having a problem trying to initiate the root process. There is no developer option. Can I still root the phone? What software should I use? Or can I use Odin?

Press the build number (in the phone info) about 7 times and you'll get the developer menu - which has nothing to do with rooting.

How do you root the phone? If it's a real Note, use Kingo. If it's a "Chinese clone" (IOW, the only thing "Note" about it is the label, the name on the case, etc.), your guess is as good as mine, since neither of us knows what phone it actually is. (Some Chinese manufacturers are coming out with phones with the Samsung name on the case, real-looking labels under the battery - which claims to be a Samsung battery, but the phone is as much the Samsung phone it claims to be as a 1957 Chevy is a 2014 Ferrari. You pay a lot less for the phone, but it's not worth as much as you pay for it.)

There isn't a build number in the settings. I always thought USB debugging had to be enabled so you can root the phone. I have a galaxy nexus and it always says to enable USB debugging. Yea its a clone. It claims its on android 4.2.1 but the os is gingerbread.
