I am a newbie, but have always been tech savvy and figure things out quickly. I did quite a bit of research and finally understand rooting. I get what each process is....it makes sense. I read rufflez GREAT mac guide (which made the light bulb turn on) and was having no issues what so ever until I got to step five, accessing ./adb devices

Terminal said it was a Bad CPU or something like that. After reading, I'm finding it's either because of my old software OR my mac being a powerbook. I don't know.

So at this point I'm at a loss. I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to find any help with older macs or macs running older software. I've tried different codes and nothing is working. I still want to root my phone. I don't have any friends who are into this kind of stuff that I can convince to let me use their computers to do this (I know, that's pretty lame).

ANY help or ANY suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Its probably a problem if you aren't running an intel processor :/ Its lame.
Google states its for x86 only (intel based).
Sorry you are having issues, I think you're only solution will be using another computer. If you can download things, you may even be able to do it on a library computer (or maybe even go to a mac store/ Bestbuy ;))

thanks for your help. i knew i probably couldn't do it i just didn't get why. this makes sense.

i'll probably be able to do it on the work computer tomorrow since i'm closing, but was really hoping to avoid a pc as the mac guide is so much easier.

thanks again!

it really is. Unfortunately, Parallels doesn't work on powerpc (right?) cause then you could just do a trial of that, install ubuntu linux and use that. The guide is pretty much the exact same for linux.

ok so i got it done with windows. a pain. but i successfully rooted with no problems. i wiped data but it would not let me wipe dalvik cache. it said that i had to do it through adb. tried all the command codes i could find online with no luck. i tried flashing the latest damage control and it wouldn't flash because there was an error with the firefly ringtone that i guess comes standard. i haven't tried any other roms because i'm wondering if i should take care of this cache problem first.

If you get errors when wipeing just wipe again even with the error then flash the rom.If you get a bootloop after that wipe again then it shouldn't give you errors.

i wiped probably 5 times and still get the error saying i needed adb. i then flashed the damage control one but that one had the ringtone error. i'll try the one you posted today. no bootloop yet *knock on wood*

i'll report back in just a bit.

The one you tried before If you want re download it. It sounds like a bad download. Hope it works.
