Ok so basically I am a noob when it comes to these kinds of things. I just traded my Iphone 4, for a brand new AT&T HTC Inspire 4g. It seems like it is slow, and the battery gets murdered by my apps and such. Is there anyway possible I can make the battery last longer, and just make the phone itself look awesome. Basically I want a step by step guide and video that teaches me how to root my inspire, wifi tether, and install a custom legit ROM. I really do not know what I am doing nor have I ever done this. The phone is basically brand new so I DO NOT WANT TO F IT UP. Please someone help me out or give me some guidance on where I should begin, and what to do.

Also, how long does this take and will it actually make my phone better. I want a little more information before I go voiding the warranty.

Honestly, its up to you if you feel the phone needs to be better by adding customizations and such. If you like to tinker with gadgets, then rooting is the way to go.
The process to root can take up to 30 minutes, maybe less, if your tech savvy. If not, don't bother doing it if you're scared of voiding your warranty.

While I a trying to root, I am getting an error when trying to generate a CID, its saying that I must make sure I have HTC Sync drivers installed?
Did you follow the video? When creating the Gold Card with bubby's file, you need to have the phone set on Disk Drive with debugging enabled.
The CID happens when your phone is set to charge and its not being read by your PC.

Ok, I have finished rooting the phone, is there anyway that I can now completely remove the ATT apps?
Yes. You can remove the bloat ware by using an app called Super Manager.

Ok so I was installing a custom rom and i used full wipe on my phone. Then I realized that that i had put the wrong version on my sd card so i restarted the device and now it just sits at the HTC screen, what can i do to fix this?
Alright so I am freaking out, I HAVE to get this fixed. I followed all instructions on first video and successfully rooted my inspire, then i was following this video but i wanted to install cyanogenmod 7 instead of lee droid, so I downloaded a zip from the mirror, and then i went and used the 1.3 full wipe. Well the mod did not work once i wiped the phone and tried to install, so i went and got the proper zip and restarted the phone. Now it just sits at the screen that says HTC. What do I do?
Pull the battery, reboot to Clockwork(power+vol dn, select recovery w/ pwr button after it goes through the PD98 checks), wipe data-factory reset and reflash your rom. If that get's you back up and running, nandroid your config then try again. If it fails again, you can restore from nandroid and get with the dev about your issue.
You might also wanna re-dl that zip prior to trying again as it may be corrupt
Why not just download/install CM7 from ROM Manager? If you rooted using attn1's hack kit, then it should already be installed.
