How to show notification previews on lock screen

On my iPhone, I used to see preview of every notifications that would pop up on my locked screen (email, whatsapp, messenger, tinder, etc.).

I bought a Samsung S8 but just see a flashing blue light and a little app icon... how can I get the previews back?

Welcome to the forum. I would also suggest you turn off edge lighting (flashing blue light) as that tends to block notification read outs. Also be aware that you may not see the same type of notifications you're used to.
