How to stop "Ask every time" call/text option from resetting

I've just started using a new phone on Android 8.1.0 Its a DoogeeX90
I have dual sim cards and use both for calls and texts. What I want is to choose at the outset of each call or text which sim card to use. So I set it up with the "Ask every time" option. However after making one text or call it sticks on whichever sim card I chose. It no longer asks me which to use in future. Is there a way around this?

ah yes I see it is.
Just noticed it offers me the choice of which sim card at the right hand side of each text message before sending, so all should be well now
