I did not want to update my phone, everything was working fine and I felt it was not needed. After 2 weeks of the annoying icon and the pop-ups on my Note3. I did the update. Woke up today to see Peel Smart Remote forcing itself to download without a removal option.

I want to remove Peel Smart Remote now! And take back control of the phone I 100% own, please let me know.

Thank you for your time and help - Scottie

App updates are different from system updates.

To stop app updates, go to Play, in Settings, and turn automatic updates to "don't update" or to notify you if there are updates.

Also, use an app like App Backup & Restore to back up all your apps (even the ones that come with the phone, like Maps - Google has pretty much ruined that one.) Then if you get an update you don't like (manually, of course - because you thought you'd like he new features), you can uninstall it, then restore the backed up version.

(To stop system updates on a phone, you have to freeze or uninstall the updater app, which requires that the current ROM be rooted. [ROM, not phone - you don't root the hardware, you root the ROM. "Rooting a phone" is just an incorrect way of saying "rooting a ROM".])
