How to stop predictive & suggestions

How do I get the predictive and suggestions stopped on my Huawei nexus 6P?

I have gone into settings, language etc and checked all settings. I have done it so there is no suggestions on the QWERTY keyboard.

But on whats app and SMS it still comes up with suggestions above the keyboard / characters when typing

How do I stop this?

Welcome to Android Central! I assume you're using Gboard, correct? If you go to Gboard's settings, and go to the Text Correction menu, is that where you turned off the toggles for Show Suggestion Strip and Next-Word Suggestions?
