How to stop Viber from downloading images and videos to my phone memory?

I already turned off automatic downloading of media over mobile data and wifi but Viber still saves it to my phone memory. Whenever i open up a conversation and there are images or videos being shared i click it to enlarge it but it automatically saves it to my phone. I read some alternative solutions like adding ".nomedia" file to the saved location of viber media so as not to preview this in gallery but that is not what i'm trying to do as this method still adds up space to my phone memory. I would like to still be able to view the photo/video in the conversation but not save it to my phone memory. Is there a way for this?

I moved this from the Android Apps forum to the General Help forum since the former is intended for developers to promote their apps.

To be able to view the media file, the file must first be downloaded to your phone. There is no way around that.
Turning off the auto-download just means that the download will not start until you click on the file to see it.

If you have an SD card installed, check the settings for Viber to see if it can store the media files on the SD card.

Thats weird. FB messenger allows users to view the images/ videos without the need for that media to be saved to my phone memory first. Can't it be done this way?
