Hello guys.
First of all, this is not a battery life thread per say...
I love the duration of my battery.

But I'd like to hear your ideas about the battery life in the long run...
These batteries are not user replaceable.

So what are you charging habits?
I mean, do you let the battery go under 10%?, or you think it's best to charge it 1 o 2 times a day, even though you can make it overnight without actually doing so..

The reason I'm asking is because I've read a lot of things about these batteries...
I'd like to know what you think about this.

Thanks!

I almost never let the battery drop below 20%. By bed time I am typically between 30-50% and plug in almost every night.

LIon batteries pretty much hold their strength for around 400 full cycles then slowly lose capacity after that. If you discharge it 10% ten times for imstance thats one cycle. Only thing you can really do once in a blue moon is do a full discharge to calibrate the onscreen gauge. The gauge is only a guess by the operating system so calibration helps accuracy. A hard circuit in the battery does the heavy stuff and nothing you do can affect long term battery life. Much better than the old NiMH and NiCad days. You can't over discharge or charge to much anymore unless something physical damages that circuit.

I just go by what this guy says, no idea if it's spot on or not. lol.

How to Prolong Lithium-based Batteries - Battery University

Basically, i just do 1-2 charges in 24 hours, i don't go under 20% if i can, and i he said somewhere to slow charge, i do that with a usb. Probably silly, but whatever. lol. Def. the 20%.

Thanks for your input.
So, everyone seems to agree that it is not good to let your phone die... I'll take that!.

Now, about charge cycles...
If I charge until 100% every time battery goes to 80%, after 5 times it would count as a charge cycle?, did I get that right?
If that's the case, what's the difference between doing that and charging that phone once from 0% to 100%?
Maybe the 0% is a bit extreme, but you should get my point...

Thanks!

Li-on batteries in smartphones don't usually degrade according to your usage. My advice would be to just charge as needed. If you can prevent your phone from going below 10% battery, that's good. If not, that's okay too.

It does seem true though that you shouldn't let the battery drain all the way and not charge for over a week. Before I knew that I did it repeatedly over the summer to my tablet and then my tablet just totally died.

I can't get the back off it so right now it's just good as a shingle weight.

This is what they are saying on the Motorola forum.

Motorola recommends NOT completely draining the battery. It's fine to "top" it off. That is you come home from work and it's at 50% and you plan on going out you can go ahead and charge it to 100%.
