How to tell if your phone is off?

Is there a way to know if my phone is off? On every other phone I had, in order to turn it on, you need to hold the on/off button for a second or two to actually turn the phone on. So if you just gave it a quick press and it was off, you wouldn't be turning it on.

so many times lately I have been checking to see if my phone was off and I wind up turning it on.

Is there any way to tell?

How exactly do you forget if your phone is off? More importantly, why are you turning it off so often in the first place? They're really designed to not be turned off.

Anyway, the power button works similarly, you are just pressing it too long?
