How to tell which version?

My friend has an htc aria and I can't find which version she's using. She has the 2.6.29 kernel...

sorry, probably should have clarified that.

which android OS version she has, she's not rooted (trying to find out which OS she has so I know which way to root it). It's not listed anywhere within the About Phone menu...which I thought was strange.

I have an LG Optimus V, and it's listed right there in the menu that it runs 2.2.1. My girlfriend's phone (an HTC Evo 4G) even lists her OS as 2.3.5 in the menu, so it's kinda annoying that I couldn't find anything about which android version she has. I even googled "htc aria 2.6.29" and all I got was articles about 1.6, when according to wikipedia the Aria was shipped with 2.1 (and got 2.2 through an update)
