How to turn my uk htc one on 4.3 into gpe on 4.4

Hello. I live in the uk and have a htc one on 4.3 sense 5.5. I use it on the three network but the phone is unlocked. What's the best guide to use to turn it into a google play edition so I can still receive over the air updates. Also can I still revert it back to out of the box condition for warranty purposes?

Edit. Just been looking at the android revolution hd gpe rom. Would it be better for me to try this one?

I love the ARHD GPE ROM especially when used with the Elemental kernel. You won't get OTA updates, but it's a fantastic ROM.

For warranty service I back if up and flash it with the RUU.

Thanks for the reply. I lost mass storage mode when I updated to 4.3. Will I get it back so I can connect via USB to my car.

USB storage mode has never really worked for the vast majority of people because the file system is MTP. You're very lucky it ever worked in your car. I'm not sure if 4.4 would fix this for you or not.

Thanks Adrian. I'm a little scared to do it. I'm used to jailbreaking an iPhone but this is a different beast altogether. Is there a link to a process and the correct files for my UK phone.?

I used this on mine and have a full GPE HTC and got the OTA to 4.4.2
works great. But you have to have knowledge of SDK and ADB commands to get it done.

Thanks. Have no knowledge of sdk or adb so best not to risk it. Wish I could have got the gpe edition in the uk but it's not available.

Ok, To be honest, I have been messing with SDK and ADB for over two years and rooting HTC phones and I still don't know or understand it but it works.

There are tools which make just about everything as easy as pushing a button. I came from jailbroken iOS devices as well and this is only slightly more difficult.

One thing about these toolboxes is nobody learns anything using them.and when they run into a problem they have no clue what to do. Dont get me wrong they can be useful, but if you are going to root and start flashing things to your phone i feel you should do alot of reading and learn the basics.

Yes. very true. I started out coming from the iPhone and went to HTC One X , my first Android, I rooted and set it up for customs with the Hansoon All in One Toolkit, It was good for what I wanted but I lacked the experience of really getting into it. I read a lot about ADB and etc. I found XDA forums then found a good guide for the adb and got into that. Now I use adb even to boot into recovery rather than the button routine. Then I upgraded to the HTC One when it came out. I had read before hand and knew what to do before I got it. Before even setting the phone up I had rooted , flashed etc . Then converted to the GPE full conversion. I am even looking for other phones to learn them now. I have to admit the windows phones are challenging . In basic. Go to the XDA forums and at least learn the basics of Android , it will make the experience of owning an Android more fun. If you are a least bit computer inclined, adb isn't that hard to set up and learn if you follow the intructions , in no time you wont be asking questions , just read and do.

Meh, the toolkits work well enough that most users won't get themselves into trouble. I also disagree that users don't learn anything. After observing the toolkit it became pretty clear to me what was going on. That lead me to learn more about doing this stuff by hand.

I have to say that i've spent countless hours on here and Gtalk/Hangouts helping people That got into trouble using a toolkit and never even knew what adb was. Im just saying that most see "ToolKit" and assume its a fix all.

100% agree. So many times people want to jump right in and root and I understand that. For a first time rooter I would always suggest doing it the long way. Then you'll be better prepared to handle the hiccups you may encounter along the way

I am a retired truck driver and drove most of the 48 states plus some Canada. I have always said that after a person takes a mandatory drivers ed course in high school they should ride with a truck driver for one week BEFORE getting a drivers license. Rooting as I feel now with the experience I have , a person should at least learn the simple facts of ADB and commands ,do a H**L of a lot reading, then think about rooting a phone or tablet whatever. I think the two go hand in hand. More the experience the better prepared for the accidents. And as the old saying goes, "most accidents happen within 25 miles of home." Like a Boy Scout, be prepared.
